What is Package Manager for Digi ESP?

The Package Manager is a software utility (in the form of an Eclipse feature -collection of plugins-) that embeds within Digi ESP development environment and allows the user to automatically download and install packages that are being served by an Internet repository under a secure connection.

What is its goal?
The Package Manager allows Digi to deliver bug fixes and updates on a more regular basis and without the need to notify customers (the tool does it automatically).
Package Manager

I have accidentally accessed this page, what I want is to download Packages.

If you need help to configure Package Manager in order to get access to server packages, follow these steps:

1.- Open Package Manager Properties Pages

- To open Package Manager Preferences Page go to Package Manager menu and click on Settings.

- After that a new Dialog will open showing up the Package Manager preferences pages.
Open Preferences

2.- Register a valid License Key

- Next step is to add one or more license keys to the Package Manager. This allows the Package Manager to search for new Packages in different folders of the repositories. Expand the Package Manager Preferences pages and click on the License Keys page.

Keys Preferences

- This page will show a list of the installed keys with its description below. To add a new key just enter it in the fields below New Key registration and then click on the Add Key button. If the key is valid it will be added to the table.

- If you want to know some information of any key you can read the Features column or just click in the key and read its description in the Key description field.

3.- Add Package Repositories

- This is the second important part before starting Package Manager. Package Manager needs some keys to search for new packages (which packages we want to search) but it also needs some repositories to know where to search for those packages. To open the Repositories preference page click on Repositories just below the License Keys in the list at the left side.

Repositories Preference

- By default there will be one or more repositories in the list, anyway you can add new repositories clicking on New button or just remove the older ones clicking on Remove button. These repositories have a preference order:
  • The one at the top in the list will be the first one the Package Manager will look for new packages in.
  • The last repository in the list will be the last one to search for new packages in.
Change preference order by selecting a repository and clicking on Up and Down buttons.

- You can also add local directories as repositories in case you have some packages in your local file system.
4.- Start Package Manager

- Once you finish Package Manager configuration, it is time to start it in order to search for new packages. There are three ways to launch the package manager:

+ By clicking on the Package Manager icon in the main tool-window.
Open PkM 1

+ By the Package Manager menu and then Package Manager item.
Open PkM 2

- After that, the search process will begin and once completed, the main Package Manager Dialog will appear showing up a table with all the packages found:
